MSA September Prayer Update

by Christine Sine

Dear Friends,

Summer is drawing to a close here in Seattle, and we are getting ready for a busy autumn season. I recently wrote a report for the last Seed Sampler that outlined all that we have accomplished over the last twelve months. The depth and breadth of what God allows us to be a part amazes me. We are small, but as you can see, a very active organization, and we are very appreciative of your prayer support and assistance in making all of this possible.

Here’s a blurb from the report:

“When I wrote our annual MSA update a year ago, I wrote about the discernment process that we had embarked on to re-imagine MSA more as a network of communities and individuals with a common purpose rather than as a program-based organization. We have now completed the work on the MSA rule of life and developed a foundational document that explains the MSA vision, goals, and pillars as well as the discernment process we continue to use for decision-making.”

Some of you probably noticed that we did not produce an August edition of this prayer update. That was mainly because my father died at the beginning of August, and I made an unexpected trip back to Australia for the funeral. I would appreciate your prayers for my family at this time. There will be no October edition either as Tom and I will be traveling in Australia for the entire month.

Prayer Requests for September and October

We are in a transition time at MSA as Judy Naegeli, who has edited the Seed Sampler for the last two years, is looking for another job. Partly as a result of her growing enthusiasm for this publication, she recently completed an editing certificate program at the University of Washington and now wants to broaden her editorial skills and experience.

Pray for Judy as she looks for a new job.

We realize that as MSA continues to expand we need a full-time communication manager who can both edit the Seed Sampler and coordinate other communications. Pray for our job search for a new person to fill this position as well as for the provision of finances to make this possible.

The October Seed Sampler will launch a new MSA resource: Turbulent Times—Ready Or Not. Pray for the effectiveness of this manual in enabling people to develop creative responses to the challenges of our times.

We are exploring the option of launching another new resource in the November Seed Sampler as well. It is a printed calendar based on the Story-Formed Calendar produced by Tara Malouf and our own Alternative Calendar. This resource would encourage us to live our lives in synch to the story of God rather than the calendar of our secular culture. It follows the seasons of the church year, beginning in Advent rather than at the beginning of January. We are all excited about this new project, but there may be some obstacles in the way of a November launch. We would appreciate your prayers for enough time and energy to make this happen as we work together with Tara.

Pray for our travels and speaking events:

Christine Sine is speaking in LA for the West Coast Medical Missions Conference on September 17 – 18.

Tom and Christine Sine are touring in Australia throughout October and then at Eastern University the first week of November.

Eliacín Rosario Cruz will attend the Christian Community Development Association conference in October.

Pray for upcoming MSA events:

We are hosting a Wild Camano Forest Tour on the land on Camano Island on September 26th.

Eliacín is also working on several conversations for October and November. Please pray that the details of these will come together.

We have started another series of discernment meetings looking ahead to the next couple of years. Pray for the MSA team that we may clearly hear God’s voice and continue to develop our networks and resources in God’s way.

Continue to pray for the MSA financial needs. We still need of $5,000 to cover our financial commitments for 2009 and are beginning to raise finances for 2010. Please pray about the possibility of joining our support group at this time.

Thanks for your prayers,
Christine Sine

P.S. If you know of others that may be interested in praying for MSA on a regular basis we would appreciate receiving their names and emails.
