World of Good
Social Entrepreneurship is really nothing new, although it’s gained attention since Muhammad Yunus won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his work with microfinance in Bangladesh. Before this month I had never heard to Social Intrapreneurs.
According to one definition, Social Intrapreneur is:
- Someone who works inside major corporations or organizations to develop and promote practical solutions to social or environmental challenges where progress is currently stalled by market failures.
- Someone who applies the principles of social entrepreneurship inside a major organization.
- One characterized by an ‘insider-outsider’ mindset and approach.
These folks have also been around for a while but today there is a renewed excitement about what potentially can be accomplished even inside large organizations. I was particularly struck by this story of an unlikely partnership between a budding Social Entrepreneur and a visionary Intrapreneur inside the giant, E-bay.
