November 2009 Seed Sampler: Advent--Story-Formed Faith
Advent marks the beginning of the liturgical calendar. The liturgical calendar was designed to lead us through the story of Jesus Christ from his birth, death, and resurrection to his gift of the Holy Spirit and the hope of his second coming.
It is important, I think, to always be aware and keep hold of the entire story arc of God. Placing ourselves within the work of God as co-conspirators, the priesthood, new creations, helps us to remember God’s promises for the future. There is a theological movement called narrative theology that advocates for such an approach to Scripture. This Seed Sampler is not specifically about narrative theology, but we have borrowed the concept to help you think about Advent and the subsequent seasons in a new way.
The lead story is about a special calendar that organizes time according to God’s story produced by Tara Malouf. There are also two reviews of books having to do with narrative theology, and an invitation from Christine Sine to participate in a new synchroblog at Godspace. We hope you enjoy it.
Blessings,
