June 2009 Seed Sampler: Encountering the "Other"
Dear readers,
If I’m honest with myself, I can acknowledge that there are people out there in the world, sometimes quite close, with whom I would rather not ever interact. I bet you have those people too. They are our Others.
The great challenge of the Christian faith is learning to love—God, neighbors, and enemies. Part of that task is remembering that everyone is created in God’s image. We would do well to try to see that image in every person, and especially in our Others. And if we are looking for it, we may actually see God reveal himself to us in new ways.
This issue of the Seed Sampler grapples with the question of the Other. There are bible stories, train encounters, difficult co-workers, and unwanted embraces in the articles below. Read them with care and openness, and through them, allow God to begin the work of softening your heart toward your own Other.
Blessings,
