Be Still
buses, cars, trucks, motorcycles
molesting peace with a pace
far greater than souls should travel
simmering moods
man, girl, boy, woman
churning to the frenetic beat
only matched by adrenaline laced veins
“Be still and know that I Am God”
but stillness eludes my grasp
swept along asphalt paths
pushing, shoving, dragging
convulsing currents of flesh
isolated souls tumbling from destination to destination
“Be still and know that I Am God”
but stillness eludes my grasp
hundreds, thousands, millions
deliberately advancing
to nowhere in particular
urban line-dancers without a partner
escaping from my lips
like steam from a kettle
enough! enough!
I release my clenched fists
“Be still and know that I Am God”
stillness, peace, pool in my palms
God speaks
I finally hear
“Be still and know that I Am God”
